My Approach is

I use ethical, qualitative & quantitative scientific evidenced-based methodologies. I engage in continuing professional development and peer consultation to develop and update my knowledge and skills according to the relevant, current literature.

I view therapy as an art and a science, as we participate together creatively and collaboratively, to address your specific goals in the context of your diverse life circumstances, environments and capacity. I won’t try to fit you into rigid, “one size fits all” theoretical or therapeutic frameworks. I aim to assist you to manage and integrate challenges with a focus on finding meaning, coping with suffering and uncertainties, building resilience and improving quality of life.

Therapy focuses on promoting holistic health, a peaceful relationship with food, eating, exercise and your individual body, and to empower resilience against harmful diet/weight loss culture and unrealistic body/health ideals.

Whether you choose to explore past trauma or not, I consider the complex psychological and physical effects of trauma and provide a safe, collaborative, and empowering therapy space for you.

B.A. (HONS. Psych.); M. Psych. (Clinical with Merit); MAPS (Clinical College)

I have a life-long interest in psychology and human consciousness. I have studied psychology within a modern science-based frame-work that focuses on observable, measurable behaviour and a depth & archetypal framework that focuses more on the unconscious, the inner life, spirituality and subjective experience, drawing on Western and Eastern practices and philosophies.

Although there are important philosophical differences, both Western and Eastern approaches are valuable. Modern scientific research supports the physical and psychological health benefits of traditional spiritual practices such as pranayama (yoga breathing) and mindfulness meditation. These practices have been incorporated into modern psychological evidence-based therapies.

I have studied formally and independently in my quest to broaden my knowledge, skills and experience. I completed my formal academic training as a mature-aged student.

My work, in various settings, over the past 25 years has involved providing psychological assessment and therapy, counselling, teaching and supervising students, participating in peer consultation and assisting with psychological research. I have a special interest in and extensive training and clinical experience working with mood and anxiety disorders, eating/dieting disorders, body image & weight concerns (using evidenced-based non-diet approach), and psychological adjustment to life changes, medical conditions, injuries and disability (including supporting carers).
